Magdalena Drechsle, a fondé l’entreprise en 1949 dans la ville allemande de Lörrach, près de la frontière germano-suisse. Ce qui avait initialement commencé comme une entreprise familiale de meubles a évolué à la fin des années 1960 pour devenir un magasin spécialisé et un centre de fabrication de tapis orientaux traditionnels noués à la main. Initialement importés de fournisseurs tiers, DESIGNER CARPETS a démarré sa propre usine de fabrication à Katmandou en 1983, permettant à l’entreprise de proposer des tapis de luxe spéciaux, personnalisés et sur mesure.

Magdalena Drechsle, founded the company in 1949 in the German city of Lörrach, near the German-Swiss border. What had initially started as a family furniture business evolved during the late 1960s into a specialty store and manufacturing center for traditional hand-knotted oriental rugs. Originally imported from third party suppliers, DESIGNER CARPETS started its own manufacturing facility in Kathmandu in 1983, enabling the company to offer special customized and bespoke luxury rugs.
